History of Sinop
Sinop is a city which was founded in the north part of Turkey.Samsun, Çorum, Kastomu are its neighbours.
It has a castle and a harbour, and throughout history, it didn't go out of its harbour and its castle.Although its harbor isn't appropriate, as Black Sea is too wavy, in
ancient times people used it.In the course of time, this harbor is bunged up with the sand, and it became
unavailable.In the time of Seljuks this harbor was closed.
This peninsula'a another harbour in the south part was the most important harbour of Black Sea Region, as its
sea was waveless.For thes feature it was called Mediterranean Harbor.Throughout history, the city lived running
economical services thanks to this harbour.Its bulwarks was there from some years ago, but today we can only
see some of them. These days , people began to understand its importance, and they tried to restore them.
From the Ancient Age, it was commercially and culturally busy city.Sinop carried on these features in
times of Byzantines, Seljuks, Candaroğlu, and Ottomans.It was one of the important military base of our country.
After Sinop Descant,the city began to loose its importance, and it went out of its castle.Today it is worth to see it,
as it has a lot of historical places, and naturel beauties.

CUISINE OF SİNOP
The cultural variety of the district affects the habits of eating and cuisine of Sinop. Grain crops dominate the nourishment of the people. The abundance of winter vegetables is a factor in enriching the cuisine. For example; people benefit from chestnut, quince while preparing foods. Foods of the district are ; nokul ( with grape, walnut, mince and yogurt), pilaki, corn soup and pasta, Kaşık cıkartması( mamalika), keskek, dough with meat, Islama, leek with vinegar, katlama, kabak millesi and a dessert without dough.

ECONOMY OF SINOP
Although it hasn't got suitable fields agriculture, 80% of the population is engaged with agriculture. Industry is not developed. the economy of Sinop is depend on agriculture, forestry, fishing ang livestock.
Agriculture: Sinop ca supply its own vegetable need. Chestnut, pear, cherry, medlar are grown up. main products are wheat, barley, maize, rice, bean and tobacco. Boyabat county is famous for its rice.
Livestock: The plateaus of sinop is very suitable for livestock. The number of animals is increasing constantly. sheep, goat, and turkey are feeded. Beekeeping is developing.
Fishing: At the shores of Sinop, fishing is very important. Anchovy, bluefish, horse-mackered and gray mullet are main fishes hat are hunted.
Forestry: Sinop is very rich in terms of forests. It has 310 thousand hectare forest field.
Industry: Because of uneven fields and difficulty of transportation, industry is not developed. Main factories are Ayancık Timber Factory, brick-tile factories, Lider Wood Factory and Balıksan Fish Products Industry.
CLIMATE OF SİNOP
Sinop is under the influence of a humid and rainy climate. There is not much difference between seasons there in terms of temperature. The city is windy nearly all the time and because of the Black Sea, it rains there in all seasons. Average temperature of a year is 14° C. Through the shore line the average rain is 679- 1077 mm and the number of rainy days is between 97-128. In terrestrial part, on the other hand, the average rain is 388- 473 mm a year and the number of rainy days is between 66-87 in a year.

NATURAL BEAUTIES OF SİNOP
lakes:
There are several small lakes in Sinop and most of them are appropriate for fishery. Sarıkum, Aksaz, Karagöl, Sülük and Akgöl are some of them.

There is a group of waterfalls in a place called Erfelek in Sinop. They’re 28 waterfalls ranged in a valley so it is the only one in the world.

A beautiful cave, İnaltı, is a cave in the middle of fir forests on a 1070-metre-high plateau.

A beautiful beach, Karakum Beach, is on the Boztepe Peninsula, in a 15-km-distance from the city centre. It is popular with its black sand and it is beneficial for rheumatic people.
HISTORICAL PLACES IN SINOP
Alaaddin Mosque :The mosque was built only after the conquest of Sinop Province. The structure is a building of the Seljukian period. It is located at the southern part of a large courtyard. The area contains a şadırvan (water tank with a fountain) and the mausoleums of the İsfendiyaroğulları nation.
The other major mosques of the Sinop province are the Kefevi Mosque, Saray Mosque, Mehmet Ağa Mosque, Cezayirli Ali Paşa Mosque, Meydankapı Mosque and the İskele Mosque.
Saint Seyyit Bilal Mausoleum: The structure was constructed in the Seljukian period. Among the other major mausoleums of the Sinop Province are the Gazi Çelebi Mausoleum, Sultan Hatun Mausoleum (Aynalı Kadın Mausoleum), Hatunlar Mausoleum, Yeşil Türbe Mausoleum, İsfendiyar Oğulları Mausoleum and Çeçe Sultan Mausoleum.
Balatlar Church :The church was assumed to be used as a theatre or a bath during the Roman age. This structure was started to be used as a church building in 7th century by Byzantines..
Sinop Castle :The castle was founded in BC 7th Century in order to protect the city. The castle was restored and used in Roman, Byzantine and Seljukian periods .The ramparts of the castle are 2050 m. long, 25 m. high and 3m. width and there are two main entrance gates.
Old Sinop Prison: The area was constructed in an area where the largest shipyard the Black Sea region of the Ottoman period. The prison as constructed on the old field of shipyard inside the castle. The structure was used as a prison building after 1887. The structure is surrounded by high ramparts. This ramparts made the structure inescapable for the prisoners.
